security-camera-monitorSecurity Camera Monitor – Viewing is Needed

By Mark Q. Johnson

The security camera monitor does not help deter the criminals, but without them, one will never know what was recorded. There are a few things that will help the owner of a security system pick the right monitor.

The security camera monitor should be of the same resolution as the security cameras that are being used. There is no need to get a great monitor if all one will see are fuzzy pictures with low resolution cameras. Likewise if the cameras are of high resolution and the monitor is not, the true capabilities of the cameras will never be utilized and be a waste of money. Whether the budget is tight or not, match up the cameras and the monitor.

If more than one camera view is needed to be seen at once, a small monitor will hamper the viewing. Split screen viewing is possible and is the best way to look at the different areas of coverage at once. The appropriate size monitor should be purchased to help with detection of any intruder at a glance.

Matching up the types of cameras with the security camera monitor is also important. If the cameras are in color, purchase a color monitor. If the cameras are in black and white, use a black and white monitor. Properly matching the security system is essential to utilizing the equipment to their maximum potential.

For those that have 6 or more cameras and wish to view all the areas at once, more than one monitor is recommended.

The type of security camera monitor should also be considered. In past years some systems used a monitor that was just a converted television. These were not made for this use and gave poor results. Today there are flat screen monitors that are made specifically for use with multiple leads from cameras. These are the best choice when choosing a security camera monitor.
